I have ridden my trek road bike and a hybrid bike to and from work many times but have ordered the new 2013 7.6 wsd and will become a regular bike commuter when it comes in on Wednesday or thursday. I totally enjoy the ride home, slow easy pace. Mount vernon trail home feels almost like all down hill. Ride into work not so much fun but doable. People at work think I am nuts. Anyway if you see a slow old lady on a very pretty purple bike that is me. Feel free to fly by me I am not in a hurry. usually takes me over an hour to get to work but it is really pretty. We shall see how this goes. Last year I ran every morning while we worked in crystal city and braved the whole winter. Biking should be an adventure. i am game except if there is to much snow or ice.

We shall see how this goes.

That’s a nice looking commute – I’m curious, what do you do on your side of the River (the Fort Washington side) to get up to the Wilson bridge? I’ve never done much riding over there and don’t know anything about the bike infrastructure… trails, lanes, etc.?

I park my beat up old truck at the park and ride at the top of the hill on oxon hill road. I hate oxon hill road the pavement is way to rough and cars are not polite. I have ridden it before on the road and on the sidewalk just don’t enjoy it. National harbor hill is a rough ending to my rides but I will never let it defeat me. i just do really slow.

I believe you can park at or near the Maryland-Nat’l Cap Park Police station on the hill coming out from National Harbor if that takes some of the stress out of your trip. I would confirm with them though.
