So I dreamt about riding bikes last night. Well, almost riding. I arrived at the start of a brevet and had apparently decided to ride on my road bike instead of my tourer and while I was taking the bike off the car rack, noticed two bulges in the the tires. At that point, another rider asked me how I managed to fit the disc wheels on to my non-disc road frame. I didn’t get what she was talking about, and then realized that I had two wheels with disc brakes on them…but my road bike doesn’t have disc brakes. I then freaked out because I realized that there was no way to mount the wheels onto the bike and scrambled to drive home and get my other bike so I could ride the brevet. That’s pretty much when I woke up. I can’t remember if I ever got to ride the brevet or not.

    Weird.

It sounds like brevets really stress you out. Hee hee. They are a bit stressful though what with the long distances, time limits, controls, and the card and all.

I haven’t had any bad brevet dreams, but I did have a pre-brevet freakout once. 2 years ago my wife and I stayed at a motel about 10 minutes from the start of a brevet in Middletown, VA. We drove together to the start then she was going to use the car for hiking and shopping during the day. When we arrived at the start I realized I left my 3 water bottles in the motel. Damnit! She, dutifully drove back to the motel to pick them up and bring them back. I got started about 15 minutes late, but overall it was a very good ride.

Are you doing the last one this year?

I’m undecided. Frederick is a hike (well, not really that much more than either Warrenton or the Bay Bridge). It also depends on schedules with the little one at home. I’m tempted, but it will probably be a last-minute decision.
    You?

No, I’m out. I reached my (secondary) 4,000 mile goal for the year a couple of weeks ago and now I’m basically shutting down my long-ride season until February, weather depending. Next year I want to attempt a 300K in May, so I’ll have to ramp up my mileage quickly.

On the Flatbread my goal was to finally finish a brevet in under 10 hours, and given the perfect conditions I pushed the pace as fast as I could go to put an exclamation point on the END of a good season.
