    It’s not explicitly stated on the website, but the percentages of bicycle commuters are based on your work location. Thus, Arlington to DC commuters are viewed as DC commuters.

    The wording of the questions often excludes some bike commuters and therefore undercounts the percentage as a whole. For example – “How did you commute yesterday?” If they filled it out in winter it’s possible they bike in warmer weather. It’s generally assumed commuter percentages are higher than most household travel surveys show.

    I’ve been corrected. Percentages are based on place of residence. If you bike to Metro, you are counted as a transit commuter if the Metro distance is longer than biking distance.
