ParticipantValerie, I don’t have that floor pump, but I know that this can happen with my pump if I don’t “open” the presta valve properly. That little thread “valve tip” opening that you unscrew can be quirky at times. I find that I have to open it about 1/2 way. Sometimes if it’s open too much, it blocks the pump fitting and if it’s not open at all, well then it’s closed heh. I hope that’s helpful, not sure what else might be the issue if it works ok on the back tire.

ParticipantMight also be a sticky valve; remember to bonk it with your finger before attaching the pump. (So some air comes out.)

ParticipantThanks for the tips. I finally got it to work on the front tire.

ParticipantSorry to be late to this thread. Things have been interesting the last few weeks. It sounds like you have the problem fixed, but I’ll add in a few comments for people who see this down the road.
Floor pumps wear out… especially if you use them to pump up high pressure (110-120psi) tires. 1) it is good to get ones that can be rebuilt. It is better to spend $5 on new rubber washers than $30-60 on a new pump. b) Some valves and valve extenders wear out with high pressure tires. This usually isn’t an issue with tubes since we all get flats and replace them from time to time. I found that valve extenders stop being gripped well, even when the pump is in good shape. Using a new extender solved a chronic headache for me on my road bike this fall. iii) I really don’t have a third thing to say, but just wanted to type a bit more since I’m starting to get used to typing with Frankenfinger again after almost a month of typing using only her 9 siblings.
Good luck,
Pete.

I knew there was a reason why you weren’t typing as profusely as usual, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Did’git get better now?

Better in many ways. The wound itself is healing nicely. The broken bone really only hurts when it is cold. Nerve damage will either heal slowly or not. I have some feeling in it and great mobility. Just adjusting to the new reality of things. Typing with it actually helps, though it slows me down a fair amount.
On Topic: I purchased a new floor pump lately and it has proven very worthy…. every bit as worthy as the Lyzene pumps, which were my former favorites. I got the more expensive pump from Park Tool. It rocks! …. Even when there isn’t a lot of valve stem to grab onto.
Rock on!
