Oh! Just a bike rack, never mind that old thing!
What should I lock up to? by certifried, on FlickrNever mind that there are a LOT of other spots open, some much closer to the building entrance…
No spots open… park in bike rack! by certifried, on FlickrJust park wherever you want, dick.

It’s a shame this is a federal installation with cameras all over.
It’s also a shame the guards like me, greet me in the morning by name, and know of my efforts to bike to work as much as possible. They’re very nice guards… too nice to have the guy towed
but they did look up his plate number and call him, told him to move it.
Some others do park in this spot, there’s a BE-A-U-tiful Cobra Mustang that parks here occasionally. He parks off to the side and leaves me tons of room to park. I told him once to make sure he doesn’t scratch my bike! He shouldn’t park there anyways, and hasn’t been lately because he knows I’m biking more and more, but this prick in the photos not only took up the entire spot, but backed up so close to the rack too. I seriously almost locked my bike to his car, but figured my bike would get jacked up, and it’s my nice one (nicest I have anyway). Also, I thought WWDD, and didn’t want to escalate. I almost did pepper spray the door handle, leave him something for later LOL

ParticipantHad this happen to me at my old garage except a) my bike was turned around (front wheel facing rear bumper of car) and b) they backed into my U-locked bike hard enough to both deflate the tube and irreparably bend my fork. From then on, my bike went up to my office with me. (Except nowadays I have a key-access cage well away from the cars)
If you didn’t have to use that rack all the time, you could leave a note on the windshield saying “Sorry about the damage to your car” (Without, of course, doing any damage…but they won’t know that)

ParticipantDepending on where this is, that might not be a legal parking spot and there might be requirements that the spot be painted correctly. Even if its fed, if the fed is just a tenant, the landlord must comply with local requirements.
Or your could just politely ask management to paint the spot as a non parking spot.

ParticipantYou should leave him a note that says “Holy *#%& those are ugly wheels on your station wagon”.

ParticipantWait, bikes are vehicles too right?

ParticipantThe driver is probably the type who b*tches about how high gas prices are and how much traffic sucks, but fails to connect that to the fact that he solo commutes in a 17 foot long car that gets 15 mpg.

Or ‘she’ …occasionally you do see women driving those monstrosities.

ParticipantTo be fair, I encountered at least 2 dozen examples of bicycle arrogance last night riding about a mile up 15th street cycleway in NW. In general, I think it all balances out and we’ve got plenty of examples of people behaving selfishly in all camps.
I love and respect all mankind.

Yeah, agreed. I was thinking about that when I posted. I originally was going to name the thread “cAr-rogance”, but arrogance is far from a car driver only phenomenon. It’s horrible in the DC area and, in my opinion, is why this area is the worst. It’s arrogance, no respect or consideration for other people on the roads. Blow through stop signs/lights on any vehicle, texting while driving, hell just call it any kind of distracted driving, parking/driving any where you want..etc to hell with anyone else, you’re king of the road.
Am I throwing stones? Not before I threw a few my way, I was BAD. Aggressive, reckless even at times. Cycling has, in part, helped me accept and take responsibility for how dangerous I was. I’ve had a few different things recently in my life that have totally changed me as a person, cycling has been a big part of that (all for the good, I hope). I don’t hope to force people to change, but hopefully I can help inspire a few others to change. A little like Dirt.

ParticipantI wish someone could calmly ask the driver why s/he parked there. It just seems ridiculous, but maybe they missed the bike rack. Or maybe they were cut off by a rude cyclist that day. Or maybe…

ParticipantIn the immortal words of Norman MacLean, “The world is full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the further one gets from Missoula, Montana.”
Luckily that doesn’t keep me from loving and respecting them all.

I think we all aspire to be more Dirt-like, or just Dirtier. Either way.

I aspire to move to Montana. Or Finland. or both. I totally want to be Finish when I grow up.
What were we talking about?
*Squirrel!*
