    That’s pretty awesome. Is there a thread somewhere else where you talk about how much gear you bring and how long the rides are?

    How difficult was it to maneuver that rig? Was going around corners a real challenge? I imagine the kiddies really had to pull their weight on that one.

    And riding in all this humidity! on the C&O canal to boot!!

    Congrats – that is quite a feat.

    Gear on table is what we took for the 3 day weekend. 3 kids on double tandem, and bike seat on wife’s bike. Basket held rain jackets and camera, Red backpack held some clothes, flat kit, shoes, notebook. Panniers fit to bike seat stem rack above burley rack where double tandem attaches. Water bottles, Brita water filter, toys, books, pillows and sheets, and clothing, also Minnie cooler for food (we cooked at the lockhouse), and black zipper topped grocery bag for dry food.

    We left fairfax, near GMU, traveled across FFX City, down olde lee highway along the FFX Connector trail to Vienna Metro, and Nottaway park. Up Tappawingo, Adahi to W&OD, CUSTIS, Key Bridge to G-Town (lunch), We then walked bikes along M street and Wisconsin and resumed on bike on K street, CCT to C&O to Lock house 6. About 25 miles in all. Great fun!

    Disclaimer,

    My wife actually took the Chariot trailer for most of the ride, you can see it attached to her bike in the 3rd photo there. She took it all the way down and up the custis. I took it for a few miles on the way back until I had a rear spoke break in Vienna. She deserves most of the gear toting credit.

    Also – this is why that time I rode with you on the Custis in the morning I set one of my fastest times whilst you were casually chatting the whole way! I’ll never complain about hauling my 4 y.o. again.

    Nah, vvil, you were pushing me!

    On Sunday My wife and I passed a Segue tour, me pulling the two boys, my wife with the bike seat and trailer. As we passed, I told my kids to pedal hard, put out my feet and shouted, “Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.” Should have seen the looks on the tour guide’s face, priceless.

    I pull a single trail-a bike and a trailer, but only in the neighborhood. It’s exhausting. Kudos on a long ride that way.

    So you can rent the lockhouse for the weekend? That sounds like fun.
