What gets you out the door?

Okay… New topic. I’ve read a few things over the last day that asked and talked about motivation. It doesn’t make any difference if you ride one day per week for leisure, or if you’re someone that rides 7 days per week, something motivates you to get your butt out the door and onto the bike. What is it?
On good days: Pure love, joy, freedom, vitality and elation gets me on the bike for as much time as my day allows.
On bad days: The challenge of completing the ride… doing something that I didn’t think I could. Many times I know there’s a cool, interesting photo or tweet out there is just waiting for me to come along. It isn’t gonna come find me on the couch.
On the worst days: What is the alternative? I personally can’t think of something that depresses me more than sitting in a car. If I’m on a cross country trip, I at least have the anticipation of my destination.. or at least getting to a civilized part of the country that actually has White Castle restaurants. On a snowy, rainy or generally disgusting day, I’d rather play on the bike in the bad weather than sit in a car in traffic.
On the dangerous days: That keeps me off the bike. Certainly we all have different thresholds for what makes a day dangerous. The one thing that I keep in mind for any bike ride is that I must be able to get on the bike again tomorrow and do it all over again. That is what allows me to pull the plug on a ride.
Thanks for your thoughts.
