Pro racing returns to Arlington this weekend – Saturday AND Sunday. Never seen a pro bike race? Clarendon’s criterium course is about as good as it gets, for watching action.

Happy to answer any questions about how it works/where/when to go. (I’m not affiliated with the race – just a big fan of pro cycling, and would love to see more people at the race.)

I’ve said it once here and I’ll say it again, both races are the best races I’ve been to in terms of being a spectator. Tight courses so not a lot of lag time between laps, lots of curves and lots of opportunity to move around and see various vantage points. And, you’re close to food, water, and shade. So, it’s great to bring kids to.

Over the years we’ve seen riders who have later appeared in the “big races” (i.e., Giro, Tour de France, etc.). But, even if you don’t know who the riders are, you’ll have a great time.

I’ve only been into to watching competitive cycling for about a year, so this will be my first time attending an I’m pretty excited. I don’t remember seeing anything about a bike valet. But maybe if I get out there early enough it won’t be an issue.

Even with no bike valet, there are plenty of spots to lock up your bike around the course. Head into one of the side streets and you should have no problem at all.

And if you don’t want to ride your bike to either race, both courses are located right next to Metro stops (Clarendon, Crystal City).
