ParticipantI came through Gravelly about an hour after that, and I wasn’t passing much of anyone. The trail was pretty empty, though. There was only one other bike parked in my building today.

ParticipantI came down from the Pentagon and crossed the 14th street bridge around 8:05, so if you were really slow (20 min from Gravelly point to 14th street bridge ~5 mph) and you were crossing the 14th street bridge you could have seen me.

ParticipantIf you noticed my bike changing colors due to the Doppler shift as I accelerated it was me.
Oops, sorry, my bad. I don’t take the MVT.

Let’s see… I was heading north through Gravelly Point at 7:45 AM. I was the slow, bright red person
(Black MTB, blue shirt, orange messenger bag, black shorts, beige-ish spotted Nutcase helmet.)
So you’ve settled on a route? Up to 4MR and over to Mt. V, I presume? How’s that final hill on the way home working out?

Yep! I went through Shirlington this morning (although I didn’t have enough time to stop for coffee – I left a little later than planned) and that was much better. I’ll let you know how the hill is today, it about killed me on BTWD.

ParticipantI think I was through that area a bit ahead of you. You would have easily recognized me. I’m the freakishly tall guy riding a pink bike with a Canadair Regional Jet 700 sticking out of my forehead.

ParticipantThat looks a bit painful… you might wanna get that looked at.
I was looking for your pink bike but I did not see you – you were probably a blur

You might find a work-around. A mile uphill is longer than a flat one, despite what you learned in geometry. But you will have fabulous calves soon, which are highly admired in some subcultures.

I was through there around that time this morning, passing through Shirlington around 7:35 and hitting the Roosevelt Island parking lot at 8:00. I have to admit, I wasn’t paying too much attention to who I was passing though. I’m usually on an orange hybrid with a black rack trunk, and the clothing/helment colors vary.

I find you to be rather petite. And fluffy.

ParticipantClearly we need some sort of secret signal for Bike Arlington recognition- I nearly yelled Freeedommm(!!!) at Dirt this morning but he looked kind of surly and was in his aero bars so I decided that it wasn’t the moment to make friends…

I keep a BikeArlington reflective band around my seatpost. sometimes I even wear my BikeArlington socks.

ParticipantI think we should let Ann design some outfits for us to wear while commuting. It would make us MUCH easier to identify.

I did that for a while, but then it mysteriously disappeared when my bike was parked somewhere. Those things are highly coveted, apparently.

ParticipantWell you can always tell the secret service guys. They are the homeless guys, wearing spit polished black dress shoes and have a radio earbud going into their ears (this use to be true – I think it was in the 1970s, until someone enlighted the service that they stuck out like sore thumbs). I think the Service has used little pins on people’s collars to identify who is authorized to be inside a zone, and who is not. We could standardize some graffiti mark on the back of our helmets. Something like and anarchy symbol, only its BA – so BA in a circle? Which also stands for Bad Attitude for added bonus. Also apparently stands for British Airways.

Of course anarchy symbols on helmets might make getting into fed buildings a bit more difficult. -
