It looks like they are shoring up the embankments at a couple of different points along the WOD between Vienna and Hunter Mill rd. At this point they are detouring riders down onto the unpaved trail that runs parallel to the WOD at that point. This morning’s detour was only a couple hundred yards. Just a “heads up” that’s all
Yeah, they’re trying to fix those 4 spots that are pretty much sliding into the creek.

ParticipantThe side-path through the construction area is really getting unrideable at this point. It’s like riding through beach sand in places. If they’re going to keep this detour in place for awhile they need a more permanent solution to this soft and dangerous surface.

I’m loving coming through there in the wee hours when they drop the detour but park the excavator leaving a foot wide trail…

ParticipantGreatly appreciate if someone could reply back when this work is done. I usually ride east from Herndon thru that section, but now will wait until the construction is over as I felt very unstable going thru their detour last week. TIA.

They were working pretty late last night, so I’m guessing they are trying to finish it up ASAP… or had seen the weather report and didn’t want to have to deal with the rain. HOpefully it’ll be done for good soon. I have enjoyed using the gravel path a bit though. Fun on roadie tires.

ParticipantThey are STILL working on the trail and making everyone detour onto the gravel path, ugggh – and the diesel fumes smelled good too.

ParticipantOne, those are the wildest looking bars I’ve ever seen. Two, the Hello Kitty bandaid really pulls it all together.

I really like having a cute bicycle.
As for the trail work, It will be really nice when they finish and repave. There have been large sections of the trail that are eroding away and it wouldn’t take too much to have the whole thing go.

ParticipantDoes that mean they are getting ready to repave or is the embankment work still going on? I couldn’t tell when I rode through there on Saturday what the status was. The trail surface through that section has really deteriorated with the heavy trucks on it recently.
