I normally ride to Rosslyn from the south and turn left onto the sidewalk on Lynn Street. Today I took my car to the dealer and rode from North Arlington to Rosslyn. I could have sworn it was bike to work day. The bike traffic was incredible. And so was the pedestrian traffic. in a little over 3 miles I was passed about a dozen times. I fell into a long line of 10 or so bikes and we cruised down the hill next to Lee Highway from the I66 overpass. We must have passed 20 pedestrians. A family of foreigners (probably from Indiana or Iowa) was walking along and one of their kids jumped to his left directly in front of me. Nearly clobbered the little goober. Then I came to six bikes waiting to enter the Intersection of Doom at Rosslyn circle This is NUTS!!!!! We all made it across but only a couple of the cars turning toward the Key Bridge made it through the light. No wonder accidents happen here.
I have to go fetch my car after work. If you see a blue Bike Friday and its rider smashed under a car on Lynn Street, that would be me. Glad I forgot my helmet today.
