Took the Metro from home up to Shady Grove, then rode through Rock Creek Park all the way down to the Memorial Bridge. If you ever wondered what approximately 600mph on a bike looks like, this will answer your question. The first half has the GoPro on the handlebar (right next to the main deflector array). The second half, I put it up on my helmet.

Err, might I suggest you slow it down to 300mph? Got too carsick watching it and couldn’t finish the video :p

I never thought of going all the way to Shady Grove then biking down but that is a very cool idea. Was it paved all the way? Well marked? Did you have any trouble finding the trail from the metro station?

I’d slow it down, but then it would take too long. 😎 The beginning shows an unpaved trail through the woods, which is a “shortcut” I intentionally took just for fun rather that riding around the north end of the lake. The entire route is paved. Getting there from Shady Grove is extremely easy. Two roads and you’re there.

Err, bad form right out of the gate. Supposed to take bikes on the elevator through Metro stations, not on the escalator :p

I see people do that all the time but I’ve been too chicken to try it.

This would require a Metro elevator to be working.

Station manager yelled at me down at Metro Center. I told him that the elevator had one of those annoying “Working to make things better” boxes around it. He didn’t seem to know it was out of service and didn’t want to apologize. Yet another reason I don’t take Metro – the rude.

Faragut North was a bundle of joy after this ride. The 17th/K down escalator was broken. The 17th & M was completely closed for repairs. And the on the other side of CT was also closed for service. And the elevator is hidden. I went around the block three times looking for it.

    Metro Forward…. every so slowly.
