    Most of you have already seen this project ongoing, but I thought I’d post up since it got skinnier last night. They’re reworking the stream bank and getting rid of some erosion points as well as updating some infrastructure, from what I can tell. Whatever they’re doing, it has a skinny spot on the trail that requires a bit of attention. The W&OD will be down to one lane for at least a few more days.

    Wonder if they’ll be doing this less than a mile further east were the heavy rains since August have been seriously eroding the north bank on the south side of the trail. Maybe I’ll take a picture in the morning.

    I don’t know what the plan is, but I can say that the trail at this spot was being undercut pretty seriously. Looking over that wall shows a pretty dang big hole.

    i couldn’t find any info on the project on the arlington website, and I put in a call to the parks dept, but haven’t heard anything back yet. keeps getting my tires muddy!

    We’re getting a new bridge there, to replace the narrow pedestrian bridge. Also – and I could be wrong on this – I think the trail itself will end up narrower where it’s essentially a street-width right now.

    Noticed this morning that we not only had the wall, but they extra skinnied it with a row of cones against the wall.

    And they just redecked the narrow pedestrian bridge this fall? Where’s the planning?

    I hope nobody gets impaled on those skinny metal posts on the side of the trail by the basketball court… Those are really hard to see in the dark.

    This morning, this segment of the trail was completely closed. I walked my bike across the now muddy grass and the basketball court. I managed to rejoin the trail just beyond the work zone. You could do it cyclocross style, but neither me nor the guy just in front of me wanted to risk incurring the wrath of the work crews, I guess.

    just a reminder to those that ride through here. clumps of mud from the construction mixed with the light rain from last night make for slippery conditions. I saw a rider go down on a corner here this morning.

    I hope one of the end results of this construction is a cleaner trail. That said, people blow through here at ridiculous speeds coming down the Brandymore Castle hill – I’m surprised I’ve not seen more people go down/collide.

    That intersection is going to get more interesting with the new bridge. People from Metro will be walking directly into the path, where they used to have a bit of buffer space to walk to see traffic going by before merging into W&OD traffic.
