ParticipantI am thankful for a delightful commute, most of which is on trails, that saves me from the clutches of the Orange Line.
I’m thankful for secure bike parking and shower facilities.
I’m thankful for another year of good health.
I’ve got almost 3000 miles this year on my commuting bike!
I am also thankful I only need to cook one thing for our extended family dinner tomorrow so I can sneak out for a ride in the a.m.
And many, many thanks to all of you for the helpful suggestions, inspiration, encouragement and answers to questions.
Liz

ParticipantI’m thankful that I have the luxury to decide in what order to list the things I’m thankful for rather than being in a position where I’m just thankful to have food and a place to stay.
Cheers.

ParticipantI’m thankful that my wife puts up with this weird addiction to cycling I have, riding 3-5K miles each of the last 5 years. And thankful that she doesn’t complain about being a cycling widow while I spend countless hours our riding and during my multi-day solo tours like Boston-to-DC this year.
I’m very thankful that we (Team Puddin’ Thieves) were able to raise $10,500 for Sarcoma research through the Pan-Mass Challenge this year. Next year we’re shooting for more like $12,000.
Lastly, I guess I’m thankful that my wife enjoys cycling too. Not to the same degree, but enough that we can and do ride together sometimes.

ParticipantI am thankful for my adopted dogs… and for getting lost on long hikes with them in the woods.
I am damn thankful for my job…. and while I am at it, I am thankful that my employer does such a good job supporting cyclists.
I am thankful for the new bike paths (Hump Back Bridge)… and that my commute is 80% on path and not on the road. (I am displeased, dissatisfied, joyless, sad, unhappy, unpleased, unsatisfied that the Lynn St crossing of Custis Trail continues to be an experience of Russian Roulette).
I am glad DDOT isnt tracking my every move as a cyclist :p

Participanti am thankful to God for His protection during my recent wipe out on the mvt/4mr trail. even though i was knocked unconscious (a first for me) the only serious injury was a torn ligament in my right hand (and of course, road rash). i need to wear a splint for 3 weeks, but hope to do some stationary cycling until then.
happy thanksgiving.

ParticipantI am grateful that my extended cycling family seems to be becoming more actual and local than virtual and distant.

ParticipantI’m grateful for an amazing wife. She’s patient, loving and loves me for who I am…. and always has. I’m very fortunate.

ParticipantI’m thankful for my extended family of relatives and friends, continued good health, the existence of this forum and the people on it, and the opportunities that come every day to learn new things, make new friends, engage in life and work, and find moments of beauty in simple things. I’m thankful too for all the people who work hard to make biking safer, more convenient and more enjoyable in this area, including the traffic planners, landscapers, BACs, WABA, FABB and especially BikeArlington.

ParticipantI’m very grateful for the advocacy and work that people do here in the area that makes it a much better place to ride.
I’m grateful for that every single day.

That is something to be thankful for. The BikeArlington staff and riders are willing to help folks of any level, without drama. That newbies like me have open access to the real experts is tremendous.
The commitment of Arlington County in supporting this effort is evidence we are lucky to live in a really progressive community. That there is no distinction between those that live here and those that ride through is impressive. Everybody is part of the BikeArlington community.
Thanks to everybody that have contributed to the effort.
Thanks
Dana

ParticipantI’m thankful for family, friends and health. As for cycling, I’m thankful for the ability and opportunity to ride a bike at all, the great trail and bike lane network in Arlington/DC/NoVA/MD (though there’s room for improvement), Capital Bikeshare!, advocacy and promotional groups like Bike Arlington, TheWashCycle and WABA; a great community of cyclists (athletic and not so athletic) in the greater DC area, the opportunity to chat with and meet fellow cyclists at happy hours and bike events through Bike Arlington and other bike/triathlon groups, a city with two open water swim triathlons (possibly three in 2012), local pro bike events like the Air Force Cycling Classic, many other opportunities to participate in athletic events (including running), and this forum.
Now if we could only do something about aggressive and distracted car drivers, it would almost be a cyclist utopia!
