Yeah, I rode by this tonight. Looks like the trail pavement is being re-done? The small footbridge is blocked off with orange plastic fencing. The detour on 41st is not terribly well paved and a little rough going (potholes and mud, bring thick tires), but does enable crossing Rhode Island Ave with traffic. Alternatively, I saw folks riding on the grass up to RI Ave.

Looks like they’re repaving the basketball court and the trail section. Detour is though the grass or back through a (pothole filled) alley. They were working on it Saturday and today. Here’s the grass version (definitely doable on a road bike, although Wednesday’s rain forecast could create a mudbath):

I rode this again both detours tonight, and I think the cyclocross challenge on the grass up to RI is the lesser of the two evils – slightly preferable to the potholes and mud on 41st Pl, even in the rain. The grass path is almost starting to wear down to a dirt singletrack now.

Looked like somebody piffed on the sidehill this morning. There was a mud scar with the telltale pattern of a horizontal bike slide.

I talked to a construction worker this morning. Apparently the CX challenge detour will be with us for about two more months — he said the project was supposed to be done by the first of the year. They’re building a skatepark where the basketball court was.

Here’s the concept plan: it will include a skate park, half-court basketball court, additional parking, and a straightened trail:
