Nice! Humanity might have a little hope after all.

Do you need anything to get home? I might have a link and I definitely have a chain tool. Connex White Star is my chain of choice these days, but it should fit most fat fixie chains.

Much appreciated, but right now I’m planning to just do the walk of shame—ie, take the bike home on the Metro—and sling another screw in. I use Izumi Vs on both my bikes and have always found them reliable.
Stupid thing is, when cleaned the bike last weekend, I looked at the bolt and asked myself if I should be replacing it and possibly the chain.
    Question answered.

I’m trying to figure out what the bolt holding your chain together is.

Some track chains use a screw to connect the master link. For the folks with legs the size of tree trunks they tend to be much stronger. If you’ve ever seen someone break a chain during a keirin race, you know how painful it is to have a chain failure.

I’m cheap. I use the German chains that are significantly stronger than roadie chains, but have a 3-piece master link that, though not as strong as the Izumi chains, are pretty rock solid and cost 1/3 as much.

I’m thinking that I might have to go to a half-link chain to get the chain length right for the 48×15 gearing. Any suggestions for a good one OneEighth? I’ve got a KHE (non hollow-pin), but I’m wondering if the KMC might not be a better choice. KMC seems to have a better rep.

I use Izumi halflinks. Other than the hassle of pinning them into the chain, they have worked fine.

I think my habit of using this fixie for hills shortened the bolt’s life. Gotta say, the chain “stretched” quite a bit in one year.
