So last friday during my lunch, i had the notion that id like to go check out the Martin Luther king memorial in d.c., its a brand new memorial and i never saw it. Look at the overhead view, there isnt much to it. no stairs, its not like you go inside a building. It looks like a statue otuside and not much else, so before i got in, i got off my bike and started walking my bike inside. But only to be met by police.
“Sir”
“Sir”
“You cant bring your bike in”
“You will have to lock your bike, there are racks out a block away”
This interaction is confusion to me. I know what it means, but every other memorial, its okay to walk your bike around, the vietnam memorial, wwii, the lincon, etc.. the vietnam memorial you cant ride through, and i understand its a close space . But the martin luther king is pretty large.
This is pretty much all it is.
As you can see, not much to see, and i dont understand why a cyclist cant walk his bike through. What they expect me to throw the bike at someone?

As i walked out, i saw two cyclists sitting outside of the monument, and they told me they gave them the same shit. I just wanted to throw that out to you guys, it would be good if they changed this stupid policy. I understand not riding your bike through the path, but walking your bike?
