That’s kind of a spicy title for this thread… not normally what we’d expect when talking about a multi-use trail. If that’s why you clicked on this thread, you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Tree roots push up the pavement, creating bumps that are not fun to ride or run over. The Park Service have a machine that grinds those bumps off. They used it yesterday on parts of the trail at the north end.

Not a great photo, but you get the idea.

In the short term, this is a nice thing. It makes the trail nice and smooth. In the long term, it probably isn’t the best way of dealing with bumps. After a few weeks, potholes start to form. It is a great thing to smooth things off before paving is done.

Happy riding. I’m sorry to disappoint y’all who are looking for the other kind of bump and grind. There are plenty of other places on the internet that can help you.

    Boom Chakka Wow wow

Am I a boring person if that title was totally not misleading?

It’s about time, the condition of parts of the MVT and Custis trail is simply terrible, it’s like they’ve created unintentional, accidental speed bumps. You don’t notice so much if walking but when riding, the paths are usually much worse quality than streets.

And to think I had pulled out my tube top and skort for nothing….

There are stretches along the Potomac that get your attention too, and I don’t mean the boardwalk. Cuts down on monument gawking, and I mean across the river.

I like a bit of texture on my Multi-use trails. It adds character.

Park service filled in the potholes and added lines to the trail this afternoon. :D

I noticed the line painting too. LIne painting is a joke under the circumstances. I suppose it is cheaper than paving but what really needs to be done is repaving, not painting. They should save the money from painting and use it to pave.

    Speaking of lane painting….

We’ve got some drunken temporary line painting on 201 in Beltsville. I sent this video to MDOT — they told me they’d eventually put in permanent lane markings with a five-foot shoulder. We’ll see.

The video doesn’t show the worst of it — it’s even squigglier between Cherrywood Lane and Beaver Dam Road:

It adds much needed color to the trail. The trial is so plain looking.
