I sent a note to the Federal Highway Administration about the Humpback Bridge project, highlighting three things I noticed. The exchange follows. Seems positive! The FHWA email address is EFL.FHWA@dot.gov

My email to the Federal Highway Administration (30 June 2011)

Before you close out the project, I have a couple of things for your punch list.

1-On the path down from the 14th Street Bridge, the bike path has a dip where the construction equipment crossed the bike path to build the detour. This dip collects water when it rains and will be icy this winter. That will result in accidents and possible liability. Can you ask the contractor to repair that dip?

2-The contractor put an overlay on a stretch of the bike trail that vehicles crossed close to the bridge. Please ensure that overlay is removed.

3-The turn from the main path of the Mount Vernon Trail bike path to the 14th Street Bridge trail when heading south is quite challenging. Because the turn seems to be tighter than 90 degrees, riders are forced to swing into the oncoming lane of bike traffic. Easing that corner would be beneficial.
