ParticipantI couldn’t agree more, Boomer.
I can wear thin gloves when using the bar mitts because my hands stay so warm.
I will pull one hand out at a time to air it out during the course of a ride because my hands get too warm.

Question for you guys that ride literally every day for years – do you ever go away? I missed January 1st this year because my wife and I were in Philly visiting her sister. No bikes to be had and no where to ride them which would not have been a hassle for everyone. Oh well.
Hey Chris – Teresa and I have traveled a fair amount and have navigated getting bikes pretty well.
We went to France in summer 2015 and rented bikes from a great guy in Paris. He owns Paris Bike Company and is an american from Ohio.
Teresa works for a french company and she goes a few times/year and he has a bike waiting for her at her hotel every trip (ooh la la).
In November, we went to Florida to visit her parents and rented bikes from a local shop.
In December, we went back to Florida to ride from Miami to Key West. We rented bikes from a great shop in Miami.
Over the holidays, we went to Paris and Berlin. In Paris, I rented the french Citibike equivalent, called Velib.
In Berlin, we borrowed my daughter’s and her boyfriend’s bikes, but many of the convenience stores have bikes for daily rental for 12 euro.
We’ve also shipped bikes to destinations and brought them on the plane with us. Renting seems to be the easiest option, but does take a little advance planning and finding a decent shop.
Cheers!

ParticipantHi everybody –
I’m fine with whatever the team name is.
I ride every day regardless, and have a daily streak going since January ’15.
I am balancing my outdoor riding this FS with my indoor training. I race on NCVC, and road season begins in March, so a portion of my miles will be on the trainer and won’t count towards BAFS.
I live in Arlington, work in Herndon, and commute occasionally (46 miles round trip). Recently I’ve been putting my bike in the car to do a ride at lunch on the W&OD near where it intersects with 28. If anyone works out that way, let me know.
I’m happy to lead an after-work or weekend ride and will post it either here or to the Strava group. If you’re interested, let me know.
With that, I’m off to get a few miles for lunch.
Cheers! Go Team 12!

I’m interested in hearing from the P.M. crew whether the WOD is doable on slicks from Reston to Gallows. I really want to ride tomorrow, but have a 7:45 appointment, so I won’t have much room for error re: surprises/delays (walking).
I went from Falls Church to Herndon this a.m. on studs. A lot of the trail is clear, but there are sections where it’s not good. The pic is westbound W&OD at Wiehle. I hopped on the adjacent gravel portion in several spots where it was really icy. It’s pretty crappy most of the way to the town center. Gallows to Park is still a mess too.
I’ll be heading back through tonight and can give a status later.

Ditto that. The only place I saw meaningful ice was on the east side of the Carlin Springs underpass, where there was a fair amount of ice down to the 2nd wooden bridge. Otherwise, WOD was clear from Reston to the end of the line in Shirlington.
Continuing on the W&OD westbound into Herndon on slicks was equally fine. There was still some ice on the bridge over Herndon Parkway, but still passable.
