ParticipantHey,
This is a great idea!! I can barely ride that far (44 mi) on trails/roads, so probably can’t join you for gravel. BUT that’s a great idea. SO i’m following in your footsteps. I’m going to take a last-min. vacation day tomorrow too!If you want to ride out the WOD instead , or maybe on the C&O up past Great Falls, let me know. I’m planning to start at HDCC (At Best Buns in Shirlington), watch those poor souls go off to work ( so sad!) and go from there.
Anyone want to join?

ParticipantI’m riding from DC.
If anyone wants to ride together together, meet me at the Francis Scott Key Memorial, on the Georgetown side of Key Bridge before crossing to VA – at 7 am tomorrow.Let’s all do the not-much-rain dance!
Yay Pancakes!! Thanks for planning Judd Lumberjack!

ParticipantDoesn’t that cat count as a dog now, for Calvinball purposes?

ParticipantOK truth is, I must also be unteachable (unlearnable?) because yes this happened once before. The thing is – I should find a picture – I used to keep my u-lock on the top of the rack laying down, under the bungee cords (2 of em!), Kinda like yours but different.
So then I switched to hanging the Ulock in the rack (a la Drevil), but not securing it. but the bungees helped it stay in there – until they didn’t.
Now I’m afraid of bungees.
Will keep one in my bag when needed, not attached to the rack!
But i’ll keep them on hand for

Reminds me of this:
I had a hiking friend who would buy TONS of things he didn’t need (or he had 2 or 3 of) when they were on deep discount, like at REI Garage sale, and then try to sell them to others of us while hiking, saying “don’t you *need* a pair of hiking poles? A bag to put your xxx in ? A scarf?”….streetsmarts
ParticipantIf I don’t wake up early enough for pancakes, i’ll come see you! Thanks !

Participantoh that’s perfect drevil~!! thanks! Actually, last night, after removing both bungees, I put it through the top like this.. first clang, and then BAM it popped out! i’ll try that!

ParticipantI happened to have small kids’ scissors with me (because knitting!), and of course they could not cut the bungee. Plus it was sooo stuck! Might keep a good knife with me now (and of course have to remember to take it out cause – security)

I had to go down to Chinatown and rescue the wife from this exact thing about a year ago. It was not fun.
SO GLAD I’m not alone! Thanks Jon. So It happened at a busy intersection in traffic on my way to an appointment. Tried and tried to undo, locked it at Dupont Cir. (thank goodness it was fine 1 hr later); then spent 30 mins taking off the wheel, the hook actually got stuck on part of the derailleur – what a job!

In lieu of a victory dance, I offer this epic victory song in the grand tradition of the original Calvinballers.

ParticipantLots of food for thought. Me — I just don’t like people racing by at high speeds on any bike…past me, past pedestrians– heck past cars.
I haven’t been overseas much. I imagine in places where bikes are commonplace, speeding runs the gamut. Is Mumbai bicycling very different from Amsterdam, speed wise and responsibility -wise? Probably the more folks ride any kind of bikes, and the bigger the city the, the more bad behavior you’ll have.
And as the price of ebikes comes down eventually, probably the poor behavior will go up.
Regulation on trails- I can’t see that happening. On the streets and city sidewalks- possibly.
