    1/15/21 – Bagel

In honor of National Bagel Day on 1/15, on your ride take a pic of a bagel or a shop that features bagels. Let us know where the good stuff is!

1/13/21 – “Liam Hemsworth” Anagram Word (5 or more letters, can’t be handwritten or on/in something portable)

    It’s Thor’s brother Liam Hemsworth’s birthday on 1/13.

This one’s complicated, but easier than you think. Read below:

    1. Find a word using “Liam Hemsworth” as the base for an anagram, then take a picture of the word out there in the wild. It can’t be handwritten OR in/on something portable (book, magazine, energy bar wrapper, etc). Street signs, outdoor ads, or descriptions on plaques are examples of acceptable entries.
    2. Don’t know what an anagram is? Basically, jumble all the letters in his name and pull out words using just those letters. For example, one word I can pull out after jumbling the letters is “mail” (it’s just 4 letters, so it doesn’t count in this hunt). Now I just ride around and take a picture of the word “mail” on a sign, a post office, etc. I don’t want the visual representation of that word (like a mailbox or an envelope), I want the actual word to be shown in that photo
    3. For this hunt, the word has to be 5 letters or more.
    4. The first person to post a picture of the longest word by the end of the day on 1/13 will get 5 extra bonus points. If the post is edited, that will be the time I am considering it posted.
    5. Remember, just post 1 pic/day (plus follow all the rest of the rules of the game)

    Happy hunting!

I’ve tallied up to 1/10/21. If your score seems off, please send me a PM and let me know what you think the issue is.

    A few notes:

    1. For scoring, instead of giving a 0 for not meeting all the rules, I’m giving .25 points for making an effort. I’ve changed previous 0s to .25
    2. The two biggest things that folks are getting dinged on are too many pics (only 1/day) or not including the date and the found object (or “Replying with Quote” my request for that day). Please know that it’s not punitive, it’s just so that I can keep track of things more easily on this completely manual scoring system :)
    3. Another thing I dinged for were people bringing things from home. I can’t always tell if a snack bar was bought during the ride or brought from home so I’ll give the benefit of the doubt, but a quick release nut was most likely brought from home ;)

Thanks everyone for playing! Still a lot of days left! 😎

Agreed on the quick release nut and learned my lesson. :)

Great to see most of you last night, and looking forward to a fun Winter with you. FYI: I posted details about my ride this Sunday in the forum and on the calendar if anyone is interested. Otherwise, ride safely and with a smile.

Hi Eric. I might join you on your Sunday ride. I am debating whether to ride or drive to Takoma Park. If I ride from home and do your 63-mile ride it will turn into a difficult-to-handle century for me.

    Hi!

I’m Bob Cochran. I live in Greenbelt, Maryland. I’ve been in Freezing Saddles for a couple seasons now. I telework 4 days a week, and I really miss my commute and my workplace friends, and it is going to take a big effort for me to get some significant miles in each week. With that said, I will try my best for the whole team and my personal health and sanity.

I am deaf, meaning I can’t hear, but I’m quite able to voice. It is the hearing and lipreading parts I can’t do. But that’s okay: I can be quite a talker once I get over my initial shyness. Most of the time I freeze up and simply don’t know what to say to another person other than “Hi”! I do appreciate very much being included in the conversation as much as possible.

If you need a Freezing Saddles neck gaiter (which komorebi should soon have a supply of), but you can’t afford one, please let me know. I’m paying for a gaiter for one person plus myself. I’m happy to pay for up to 3 other folks.

    Thanks so much

    Bob

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for a nice introduction. I have never been to Greenbelt, but … you know what? For tomorrow, I planned a ride there with my friend via Anacostia trail. So, we could flyby but unfortunately, I cannot tell what time we will be in Greenbelt. We leave Crystal City at 7:30 AM and then ride by the White House, Freedom Plaza, and the Capitol building. If you think we can meet and ride some time together, feel free to text me on the number that I left for Bollard Busters in our Strava Club.
