If you tend to keep your phone in your pocket, it’s easier to check your progress (and start/end rides) if you use Strava. In theory it should be better for monitoring calls and texts. It monitors your heart rate. If you mount your phone to your bike and/or don’t use tracking software it may offer no benefits.

Does the heart rate function of the apple watch throw that data into strava rides recorded on your phone yet? I’ve been waiting like 3 years for a HR watch that seamlessly does that (like no extra fiddling besides starting and stopping your ride), but kind of gave up paying any attention to it last year cause it seemed like it would never be done well by anybody.

If we anchor the far end of this bridge somewhere in geostationary orbit we could probably both please subby and get rid of him permanently!

Does Hains Point officially close after dark, or are you allowed to ride or be there 24/7?

quick google search doesn’t provide open/close hours for east potomac park itself, but in my experience the gates to the road around are opened and closed seemingly at random. there’s also the always open sidewalk ring around the edge which is quite fun as most parts of it are actively crumbling and sinking into to river at any given moment. You may encounter a weird man named steve, known for fairly often riding there around midnight, possibly in a bathing suit.

some of us have joined their strava beta testing group already

but now they need more people on their beta website to provide user feedback and help them debug:

I did like an hour’s worth of not laps at the Hains Point gate tonight in protest of laps, but they ended up just being smaller laps.

Now that the fact that it isn’t at or anywhere near Hains Point has been brought up, I am much less inclined to go there tonight oof.

Thanks guys. Just finished a pm to you covering the same ground. I’m guessing I’m also a 58 to maybe 56 size frame but not really knowing is part of my concern!

Ayo sorry to resurrect this thread from the dead but…

I was just at bikenetic inquiring as to the feasibility of having them build me a belt drive wolverine a la this thing. There’s no way for me to test what size frame I’d be comfortable on with this setup and I’d like to see how a bike like this feels before dropping moneys…

Apparently there is a bikenetic regular who has 2 of these bikes; a fix and an 8spd hub… Any of you happen to be this person? I’d like to maybe trade some beer for a spin on your wolverine some day when the weather’s better.

The real Juddler Lumberden had a psychotic break and his alter ego has been furiously pedaling around the country forming underground cycling clubs for well over a year now.

Yeah we could start a team wide email list if everybody is comfortable with that. Bob do you have a list of people’s emails already?

SteveO’s semi official FS event google calendar at the bottom of the freezingsaddles.com homepage is an easy way to see some upcoming team rides or coffee clubs. Not everybody is posting stuff to it though. Otherwise you have to spy on other team threads. Seems like posting the same thing everywhere will be the only way.

I(NTP)’ve been pretty happy with things as they’ve been to be honest. Plus I’m a total scrub. I like having a figurehead and the idea of this team pretty much being Bob James and his Backup Dancers makes me giggle.

Learning the shortcomings of Strava and this forum as organizing tools is an ongoing process but I’m paying attention and I’m happy to keep helping however I can. Doesnt seem like there will be a single solution that works for everybody. From now I’ll copy rides and links from one format to the other when I get the chance.

Don’t feel like you have to organize stuff for everybody Bob, just do what feels good.

Also, please everybody bother Judd and his team as much as possible because he clearly is a pain in the ass.
