Only one data-point, but I’d say it works way better than the built-in visor on many helmets, it ends up very close to your eyes providing shade without dipping your head forward. It can also be flipped up for riding in the drops or as an ELITE multiplier.*

*Yesterday riding in my matchy-poo CAPPO black & white stripped kit, white Rudy Project sunglasses and black cap I was as ELITE as I ever get (major demerits for the battered, muddy CX with clean road wheels and not so subtle pirate regalia)

Pirate regalia points > ELITE points.

    At least in my book.

Which isn’t so much of a book.

    More like guidelines, really.

    Savvy?

800mpg is close, but its possibly much better than that.

In Vienna, you’re getting your power from Dominion. They do rely on a lot of coal generation (almost 50%) for their fuel mix, but they have a decent amount of nuclear capacity (35%), some hydro and a decent amount of natural gas too (15-20%). The mix of emissions from those plants depends on how they are dispatched (the nuclear is reliable and expensive so they run it all the time, some coal is run a lot, other coal is used for intermediate power, and gas is frequently used for flexible peaking needs). Its hard to find recent, reliable numbers for Dominion’s emissions, but a few sources (Dominion, the NRDC, etc.) all hover around 1100-1200 lbs of CO2 for every MWh generated (that’s 1,000,000 Wh). So we can back into the number:
    1,150 lbs of CO2/MWh or 0.00115 lbs/Wh.
15Wh to go a mile on your bike will get you 0.017lbs of CO2 per mile traveled. (Picture a tablespoon’s worth)

So wait – do I have to carry the CO2 in the tablespoon while I’m riding?

*went to art school – fears math*

My ebike gets 15 watt-hours per mile. I’m not good at math – can someone convert that to mpg equivalent? Just curious to know how it compares to a Prius or volt electric car.

According to The Intertubes, 20 watt-hours per mile is somewhere around 800 MPG.

Ha ha! I rode TWO DAYS IN A ROW! (Ask me how I feel tomorrow afternoon, for I plan to DO IT AGAIN!)

Everyone passed me today I think. Except for people on CaBis.

    I’m assuming I’ll get faster someday… I hope…

It was chilly this morning and I almost wore a jacket but then I didn’t because I figured I’d want to take it off after 5 minutes and that would be annoying. I need sleeves or arm warmers or summat. Or maybe just a really big vat of embrocation to get through the winter.

Or Sterno! That’s kinda like embrocation, right?

It was a gorgeous morning and there were lots of cyclists and runners and planes and as I came over the bridge I saw some people in the river (well, people in boats, which were in the river) rowing… or crewing? Crowing?

Later I shall ride to see you all at the Hour of Happiness! :D

If the sun doesn’t blind me and I don’t run into someone on the 4MRT, that is. There were a few spots yesterday where I couldn’t see a freakin thing while I was riding. Gotta get a cycling cap and see if that helps. I did see some awesome blue herons in Four Mile Run though.

Saw an All-City Big Block parked outside Five Guys today, its deep red metallic finish sparkling in the sun. It were gerrrrrrrrrrrjus.

The best part was when I came outside with my tasty lunch, the owner was unlocking it so I got to compliment him on his bike and be all bike geeky for a second. :)

Looked very much like this one: http://flic.kr/p/6YCNti

It was amazing out this morning!

I couldn’t make myself go fast at all though, even though I was running late. I was enjoying the ride too much. :D

The skully jersey was worn in honor of Bike Like A Pirate Day, although I forgot to wear my skully socks. THE SHAME!

Oh! I forgot about the Mysterious Happening that happened on the way in.

So there I was, riding along by the airport, looking at all the car traffic on the GDubs, when I spotted a black Cannondale neatly placed upside down in the grass by the side of the road. Not much farther up on the side of the road was a tan sedan. A ways up farther than that was another car and a police car with flashers.

😮 says me. But no cyclist did I see! Where did the cyclist be?

As I headed toward the Gravelly Point parking lot, the mystery was solved. There, waaaaaay up the parking lot access road, were a police officer and a cyclist pushing a disabled car. :)

Then when I got to work, Mystery #2 – a green MTB with a Bike Arlington reflective band was parked in the bike rack! WHO YOU BE? :D

Man, if the Metrobus I’m on tonight gets sucked up in a tornado I’m gonna be SO ANNOYED.
