As was already mentioned by someone else who posted a fire hydrant photo, the fire hydrant operating nuts that control water flow are pentagonal to help prevent tampering.

This LFL is located near Sunrise Valley Elementary School, where the W&OD crosses Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston. Again, oddly, there were no children’s books in this LFL! Did not bring a book to leave because I was only expecting to ride a couple of miles since my street was still so snowy. As so often seems to happen during BAFS, once I got out of the neighborhood the roads were pretty good so I kept riding. Again, didn’t think to bring any books with me, but now have a couple in my pannier for the future!

Dwight Eisenhower was one of only 10 five star generals in the US military. When those five stars are arranged in a circle, they form a pentagon in the negative space

Location: Lat: 38.930466 Long: -77.3602353. On the path that runs along the east side of Steeplechase Dr in Reston, just south of the intersection of Bugle Ln and Steeplechase, behind 2410 Bugle Ln.
This Little Free Library didn’t have any children’s books that I could see, and really should have LOTS since it’s only about 500′ from Hunters Woods Elementary School. Didn’t think, given the late hour, to bring any books with me, but planning to revisit this LFL and bring some children’s literature!

Reston post office, inside the lobby. Nothing on the outside of the building to identify it as the “Reston” PO. Riding late at night provided the advantage of being able to bring my bike into the lobby!

Hi all! Last year was my first year of doing BAFS and despite doubting that I could actually ride through the winter, I did and I LOVED it. So excited to start BAFS 2022 in just over a month! Looking forward to the opening HH and meeting more avid riders this winter.

Bigredboiler, thank you sooooo much for the mailbox game!!! 😊 This was my 1st freezing saddles and it took me a while to figure out everything other than “I need to ride at least 1 mile each day and preferably at least 10.” Once I got the hang of the pointless prize games I got hooked on a couple as motivators. The hunt for unique mailboxes was my favorite, and the one most helpful in getting me out and keeping me riding even in the worst weather. Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting you live and in person!
