karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantMy good friend Julie’s granddaughter, Olivia Bond, created this LFL with a friend for a Girl Scout project. It’s adjacent to the parking lot for Reston’s Cathy Hudgins Community Center on Pinevrest Rd. It’s well maintained and stocked with an assortment of books but seemed that it could use another children’s book so I left “Fox on the Job” by James Marshall. Lat: 38.941586 Long: -77.36582

Peri-Peri is also known as African Bird’s Eye Chili, rich in Vitamins A, B, and C, and containing capsaicin, a natural mood enhancer.

No idea what this creek is named, but it runs behind the YMCA on Sunset Hills Rd in Reston, and you cross it on a footbridge to access the W&OD.

karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantThis LFL was well stocked with an assortment of books. I had a book in my pannier BUT LEFT THE PANNIER IN THE HOUSE!!! Given the road conditions today (dicey just driving my bike out of my development) decided not to go home just to get the book to leave.

karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantContract post office in Washington Plaza on Lake Anne in Reston, and yes it’s in a chocolate shop! And their handcrafted chocolates are delicious! Kind of hard to see in the photo, but the name of the shop is Chesapeake Chocolates. Two Herndon sisters-in-law started the business in 1998.

Bronze statue commemorating Robert E. Simon, founder of Reston, installed upon his death at 101 years, in Washington Plaza on Lake Anne, the original heart of the community Simon built. Next to him in this photo is a “wishing net” filled with dozens of hangtags marked with wishes by unnamed authors. The net has been in place since late 2020. The banner at the top of the net, “Live, Work & Play” expresses Simon’s vision that Reston should be a place where residents could pursue all three within their community.

This does not seem to be an “official” LFL but has been here for a while – used it last year as an entry for #PublicArtFinder. It’s on the corner of Viking Dr and Puritan Ct, 38.92663, -77.38435

karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantThis plaque commemorates the history of Cartersville Baptist Church, located near the intersection of Hunter Mill Rd and Sunrise Valley Dr in Reston. The church was originally constructed on land donated by Rose Carter for a church in 1903. In 1951 the original church structure was rebuilt, and then again after a fire in 1972. The church still serves as a place of worship for descendants of the original congregation.
