2/22/22 favorite free library so far! Not an LFL but shaped like a MUSHROOM complete with stained glass windows and firefly lights and books for all ages. Corner of Washington Blvd and N Evergreen St. (Really resent the development there that killed so many trees but this library is a sweet outcome). I took three pics to share the fun details.

This LFL is not chartered evidently. It didn’t have an LFL plaque with a charter number, and doesn’t appear on the LFL website’s map. It’s located at Fox Mill Swim & Tennis Club on Viking Dr in Herndon. There were absolutely no children’s books so I left Mercer Meyer’s “Just for You.”

Tiki Thai is in Reston on Sunset Hills Rd, west of Reston Pkwy. From their website: “Tiki is the best way to summarize Polynesian culture with one word…. The modern day tiki culture celebrates Polynesian traditions through exotically decorated bars and restaurants that aim to transport you into a tropical oasis. While it’s fun to celebrate Polynesian culture, at TIKI THAI we also honor it. Without compromising integrity and staying true to the history, we aim to deliver the same experience that historians like Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt (aka Donn Beach) feel in love with in the early 1930s while traveling the islands of Oceania. Around the same time the kingdom of Siam transitioned to what we know as Thailand today. Thailand’s deep culinary history pays homage to neighboring country’s like Malaysia, Indonesia and India that have heavy influence within every dish. These two cultures carry a strong heritage worthy of respect and it is our pleasure to share our passion hospitality while honoring both cultures here at TIKI THAI.”

karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantShringar Boutique is in a small unassuming strip mall just off Sterling Rd. They sell trendy Indian partyware for men, women and children, as well as costume jewelry and other accessories.

This LFL was built by a young man for Boy Scouts Eagle Service Project. It’s built into the side of a lovely tiled archway leading to St. Matthew’s “outreach garden.” They grown organic vegetables to help feed local families.
karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantThis 4 foot wide fragment of the Berlin Wall is displayed at the entrance to the Bundeswehr—German Armed Force Command Headquarters in Reston. The wall fragment, decorated by the famous French “wall artist” Thierry Noir, is explained in a plaque that my bike is leaning against, providing historical context and Berlin Wall facts.

karenbikes2@gmail.comParticipantThis is a sad one, along the road on my ride today. It’s a memorial to a young boy who must have liked to ride his bicycle as it’s part of the memorial to him. You can barely see the small bike beneath all the tinsel and stuffed animals. The flyer with the boy’s photo was faded and the printing no longer legible.
