Please, enjoy photos from the Immigrants Heritage Ride in Fairfax!

Thank you so much, Cathy and Serdar, for this really fun and interesting ride today! Nice to meet some more FS people live, in person, on bike, rather than just connecting via Strava and the BAFS forum.

This is the Azerbaijani Pomegranate wine I bought at Baku Delicious. After both Serdar and a customer recommended it, I had to have a bottle.

I love this statue, “Taking Flight,” which was installed in front of the Vienna Community Center in 2017. I always look at it when I ride by. This time since I was photographing it for this challenge, I looked a little closer and noticed that it’s dedicated to the late Mayor Jane Seeman and all Vienna community volunteers.

Plaque where the W&OD crosses Hunter Mill Rd between Vienna and Reston. It commemorates the location as an important crossroads during the Civil War.

Red socks to match my red jacket and red helmet — not that you could see them under my riding boots

This LFL seems to be unofficial. It’s located at the corner of Persimmon Cir and Mathy Dr. I didn’t have time to really check it out since I was on Cathy Miller and Serdar Jorayev’s Immigration Heritage BAFS ride.

When I googled “Capricorn,” time and again I saw loyalty mentioned as a personality trait of people born under Capricorn. Some notable Capricorns who exemplify this: Greta Thunberg, Michelle and Barack Obama, Denzel Washington, and Muhammad Ali. The people who live in the house in this photo are CLEARLY extremely loyal to the USA — or at least the US flag — since they have THREE of them bordering their property, and as well as one near their front door.

PLEASE tell me that’s a Little Free Library! So awesome!

If this is a LFL, it’s the coolest one yet! [emoji7]

Plain black wool ski socks but they seemed particularly appropriate today.

The Kitchen is a restaurant in a small strip mall on Soapstone Drive in Reston. They’ve always been solely carryout, no tables for eating in. The menu is surprisingly extensive and and the items are listed in English and Chinese (e.g., “Vegetarian Ma Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐饭”).

These are 3 bike racks outside of Walker Nature Center in Reston. The artist is Dana Ann Scheurer and these are collectively titled “Pileated Woodpecker.” The pileated woodpecker is Reston’s official bird and the three wheels of the bike rack display the woodpecker in flight, perched in a tree, and a rectangular nesting hole which is unique amongst woodpeckers species.

2/5/2022 Nostradamus

From Wikipedia, “By 1566, Nostradamus’ gout, which had plagued him painfully for many years and made movement very difficult, turned into edema. On the evening of 1 July, he is alleged to have told his secretary Jean de Chavigny, “You will not find me alive at sunrise.” The next morning he was reportedly found dead.”
In the spirit of full disclosure, I took this photo as I was loading my bike into my car to drive to someplace that was free of black ice. Technically not on my bike, but taken in the process of going out for a ride. Hoping that the faceless cabal will consider at least partial credit for this entry!

This LFL appears to be very new and is in excellent shape. All of the books were for adults so I left Space Kid. The LFL was loosely organized by non-fiction on the lower shelf, and fiction on the top. Just as I was leaving a group of high school students came along and one of them swapped out a book he’d brought for one in the LFL.
