Thanks for all the suggestions and links everyone! I really appreciate it.

    @ewilliams0305
, would you agree with @dismalscientist’s suggestion of New Market road? ?

Actually…. while a lot of people do ride it I think it’s unnecessary and has more traffic. No real reason to ride into Frederick at all. I wouldn’t even go that far west on the canal. I’m thinking you bail off around Seneca and head north on some scraggly roads the cars have long forgotten…

I went right through there last weekend. This is a very direct and as flat as possible route. I can give you directions too from the canal to the route and you can cut out a few hills at the southern end of the route pretty easily. Traffic was amazing in this route.

I’m there, and will have a very heavy saddle bag for a certain someone who road 104 miles on 1/1/17 (you know because I forgot it the first time around)

Thanks y’all. I’m going to send these notes to her and make a rwgps when I have a minute and share it here for more debate:). I’m please the general response wasn’t “oh don’t ride there”…. I’ll probably usher her down there Sunday for a nice recovery spin after I completely destroy myself Saturday:)

Thanks for quick responses y’all. This is super helpful. I’ll use this info and give it a go She want to try it out on the weekend before plunging into rush hour. Definitely not a very confident cyclist but we can fix that:)

Huge congrats Chris, I doubt I’ve ever ridden 100 days straight. That’s certainly requires lots of dedication and rule9. Here’s to 1000 more:)

You know I’d join you but I have family obligations. Have fun! For what it’s worth, you can totally do this ride on a 700×23 fixed gear (I know)…

Not a CCT commuter but, did someone say silver spring? We have a Tuesday coffee club at Kaldis. Our numbers have grown (lately it’s been slow with winter) and virtually every full length CCT commuter is there once in a while. It’s a good time and we try our best not to talk about bikes the whole time (but that’s hard). Silver Spring has lots of cyclist though you’d never know, we love expanding our numbers.

I’m working in MLK day but I propose a team ride anyway! I’m sure all the other teams will make a point to have group rides. I could however be a say Hanse point by maybe 4/4:30 to ride a few laps with y’all

The fun factor and supportive atmosphere is quickly dissipating and is one of the reasons I stopped participating in FS.

Kathy, this thread quickly got out of control (by way of my own contribution for sure). I don’t intend to bully or discourage anyone INCLUDING MATT from riding, inside, outside, or from participating in BAFS.

Reset! I assure you me sense of humor is a bit over the top…

Going back to my initial thread. I simple wanted to recognize the person who road the most on a trainer. In fact it started because I invited a friend to play BAFS and she ended up riding inside almost every day so far, I was secretly rooting for her to win. I “thought” it would be a fun comical prize and could include a hilarious prize. People seemed to even respond positively to the idea.

This was never intended to be a debate about wether indoor trainers are good, bad, lame, none of that. Just a way for people who are outside suffering in the cold to have a good laugh when it’s all over. Sure, a laugh at someone else’s expensive is never a great idea, but I thought it was all in good fun. After all, we have had awards for the slowest rider and so on.

I don’t want anyone in this community to feel intimidated or pressured to ride. You should feel welcome here and you should definitely keep on riding however or whatever way you choose to do so.

    I’m going for a bike ride[emoji1338]

    I love you too subby!

To be serious for a second (if at all possible)

I have no problem with trainers, and training. I will however hate on any BAFS participant who rides inside all winter on a trainer. Just don’t sign up[emoji107] Stay inside guilt free and train train train! At the end of the winter you’ll be faster than me, and I’ll be harder! The kind of riding I do being hard is really all that matters (to me). Can’t be having that oh so soft baby Ass [emoji64]

I think you are confused on the definition of garbage miles. Every minute on the trainer is focused and has a purpose. Noodling around at 14mph for 7 hours is literally the definition of garbage miles.

HA! I think your missing the point entirely! I never said garbage miles, I said GABAGE🤢 like WHY THE F don’t you just do jumping jacks or some shit like that! I guess if your sole purpose of riding is to have great abs🤞and big quads[emoji109] then yeah, ride trainers. If you want to enjoy yourself a bit then yeah, it’s GABAGE, through that time in the mutha f&&&ing dumpster and feed it to the [emoji192]

PS I have big quads and nice abs regardless[emoji12][emoji869]
