ParticipantYou: The ten (I counted) riders who passed me in rapid succession yesterday (yeah yeah, I’m slow), all of whom called their pass.
Me: flabbergasted.

ParticipantAn absolutely freakin’ gorgeous day today means higher volume on the trails – please exercise appropriate caution and model good etiquette.

ParticipantYes, we should.

why on earth would someone watch a troll bait video asking an inane question?
It’s actually a very well-made video by The Guardian, discussing cyclist behavior in traffic, some of the reasons why we do the things we do, and whether it’s really as bad as non-cyclists are always complaining about.

“Might appear” to whom?? Bitching to each other does nothing. That is exactly my point. You want change – STOP KVETCHIHNG and when you have a problem with someone, stop them, talk to them. Waiting till you can post a whitty remark on the forum is just an ego game.
I write this with all due respect and affection: get over yourself.

Cars can’t be picked up and moved aside, so I’d say if the inconsiderate have to get around, I rather have them on scooters.
Except I was referencing complaints I’ve seen on this forum about hooligans who don’t park their dockless bikeshares where we want them to.
Some of the “Two wheels good, but only a certain type of two wheels and if it doesn’t fit my definition of the ‘right’ two wheels then they’re The Devil” comments I’ve seen on this forum over the years just amaze me.

A new update from Alexandria city staff (via Mayor Wilson’s office):
This raises all sorts of questions, especially since July will mark the second anniversary of the city selecting eight of the 10 new locations after months of collecting the public’s input.
1) Has the city of Alexandria ever offered a public explanation for why it and VDOT have been unable to resolve their three-year-long dispute about the city’s 2016 CaBi RFP and contract, its alleged noncompliance with federal requirements and what it would take to qualify it for federal funding? (VDOT’s qualms don’t appear to be shared by DDOT, which was part of the same 2016 RFP but keeps merrily adding new Bikeshare stations throughout D.C.) Has this ever been discussed in any public forum? If not, why not?
2) Will VDOT really let the Alexandria “ride” the Falls Church contract? The department was not so positive about this when city staff was talking about it last summer, and since then VDOT has been insisting that the 10 new sites be subject to a federal environmental review.
3) Is the city really proposing that once it finally acquires the new stations, it will then wait months before installing anything, until it has been nearly THREE YEARS after selecting the sites and telling the public they were coming?
4) So when would the city begin the next round of selecting sites for future expansion? Will that also take three years?
I suspect someone in the bowels of the bureaucracy who opposes bikeshare is “slow walking” contract negotiations, but I’m cynical that way..

The free weekly Alexandria Times this week pulled a hard 180 this week and published a piece sympathetic to scooters, focusing on new riders. It has nice bits about replacing car trips, reducing environmental impact, etc. — but I LOLed on this scooter apologist quote about Scofflaw Scooterists:
As if the riders who park the bikes badly and the residents who abuse the scooters wake up with a “let’s go do some crimes” mentality and, you know, it’s just a question of which large metallic object they were gonna block the sidewalk with. Ha!I think the point is that some people are going to be inconsiderate no matter what. The people who park bikes on wheelchair ramps and toss scooters into the creek are the same ones who ditch their shopping carts in the middle of the lane in parking lots and spit their gum out on the sidewalk. IOW, just standard, run-of-the-mill nest-shitters.

Bike to event t shirts are unnecessary garbage made by massively polluting factories taking advantage of slave labor in third world countries – be glad you don’t have one – and let’s not even speak of the water bottles. The more we as a culture reject this kind of stuff the better.

Hi all – a point of pride I have is owning 9 consecutive bike-to-work-day t-shirts but will be out of town for this year’s big day. Does anyone know if its possible to pick up a BTWD t-shirt at a later date? I’m weirdly passionate about getting one and would hate to miss it even if I won’t be their for events!
I was in the same boat a couple of years ago – I was able to pick up a shirt at Bike Arlington HQ.
One of the crew handing out shirts at my pit stop this morning was giving someone instructions for getting a surplus t-shirt (he’d registered too late to get one today), but I wasn’t listening closely enough to catch the details, sorry.

I’m not sure the current temporary realignment of the IOD is optimal. It seems to give LPI runners a chance to build momentum before mowing down cyclists and pedestrians “not in the crosswalk”.
Perhaps the folks who run BTWD could request law enforcement presence at IOD on that day. I’ve certainly appreciated the difference it makes when APD occasionally stations officers there. Just a thought.

Mmm. Just made my first-ever visit to Acme Pies on Columbia Piek this Sunday; had a quiche slice for breakfast, and got a pecan slice planned for later in the day — only, the pecan didn’t make it out of the shop either, as it turned out.
Edit: Huh – Just looked up Lazy Mike’s – I grew up a ways down Shreve Road, and remember when that building was the Arthur Treacher’s Fish n Chips; unless I’m mis-remembering the Long John Silvers — but I thought there was a Treacher’s there first, back in the late 70’s…I live close by now, and it was a Long John Silver’s until only a year or two ago. Maybe it was an Arthur Treacher’s before that? Either way, words can’t do justice to how happy I was when that place closed down and the stench of rancid fish fry oil finally dissipated.
