ParticipantI lead a Thursday commuter convoy from Mosaic to Metro Center. We leave a little too early to make it to this coffee club. It is cool to have Caffe Amouri in the mix though! They make some of the best coffee in the area.

ParticipantThe LAB Group Ride clinic is a subset of the Smart Cycling course.
- Rules for riding in a group
- Communication when riding in a group
- Skills: Obstacle dodging
- Skills: Riding in Proximity
- Skills: Dodging in Proximity
- Skills: Emergency Stop
- Fun Practice: Emergency Stop Context
If you really want to learn the technique in a formal way, take one of WABA’s Confident City Cycling classes. These are AWESOME!!!! Expert cyclists will 1) Learn a lot from the class… much more than you ever imagined; and b) You’ll learn a TON about how to teach others. You won’t be ready to teach the class on your own, but you’ll learn a lot about how to communicate with others.
Classes are on the calendar. Best of all, they’re FREE!

I’ve identified my next winter commuter:
I’d be interested to actually ride one of those… at least around the block. It is a very cool concept, but I can’t imagine that it handles well. It also has some basic conceptual problems with tracking in the snow. My fat front fixie works because the fat tire lays down a track for the rear tire to follow. This trike will be plowing tracks with all 3 wheels. That means that it has 3 times the rolling resistance of a normal fat bike in the snow.
Sorry to be practical.

Where’s the fun in that????

ParticipantLeague of American Bicyclists has an entire text and class on the topic. So does IMBA. I’ve been doing it for 30+ years, so I have a little background on the topic.

Well, with the predicted early morning winds and slick travel surfaces, I should be flying down the W&OD to Shirlington in the morning. I doubt that will mean I get to Best Buns any earlier than my usual 7:10 am or so.
See you there!

ParticipantSincere thanks, y’all. There are some awesome people in this area that are great sources of inspiration… from an advocacy, leadership and riding point of view. The stuff people do here on the forum makes a HUGE difference. Honestly, I get inspiration from seeing happy people on bikes.

ParticipantWe need to do a longbike ride some time soon. There are others out there that would have fun joining.

What, no tonic?
Always have a stock of tonic at home.
Sorry that I didn’t remember you when we met. Old head injuries sometimes impair my ability to remember people that I only see occasionally.
Nice to see the dummy on the ride.

ParticipantBeer, gin, wine, limes and 70 pounds of cat litter. That’s a party on wheels if I’ve ever seen it.
