Participant1/18/21 – BIPOC Public Art
Another from Arlington artist Winnie Owens-Hart, “Memory Bricks”
Winnie Owens-Hart is a native of Halls Hill/High View Park (HHHVP), the neighborhood this park commemorates. Owens-Hart was commissioned to develop artwork reflective of the history and values of this predominantly African-American community. Here is a URL with more details if interested
Really needed to see the whole thing and a close-up of the bricks for it to make sense, so I combined two frames into one photo (to meet the only post 1 picture req’mt).
Each brick in the park was made by a community member to honor memory of someone.

Participant1/17/21 – Ben Franklin’s B-Day Lightening Bolt
Some lightening bolts on this UVA vs VT poster at a Citgo west of Staunton.
Luckily, as there wasn’t much commerce/signage on my rural ride today.

It’s in a mini park I had no idea existed prior to this!Yes, I assumed Josh’s biggest challenge today was deciding which Ben Franklin tribute to photograph….

Participant1/16/21 – The word “Brewing”
Redbeard Brewing Co is on the square in Staunton.
Across from Ox Eye Vineyards Tasting Room, where I’ve been many times. Ox Eye’s location doesn’t say “winery”, so I went with the Redbeard Photo. I’ll have to try the beer later though; sorry, no review or commentary.

Sweet! So much better than the generic fish mailboxes I’ve seen so far.
p.s. …and impressed you have time to find mailboxes when there are so many parks to seeI really loved park hunting last year. Painful to not take the time to stop and photograph park signs anymore

ParticipantLots of great mailboxes everyone!!!
Both posted here and consolidated in the Google Photo Album of Mailboxes
I’m fine with posting either/both places. Just make sure I can tell who you are if you only post to the Google Album (so far I can figure out everyone’s Forum alias from your Google Name).I know it’s not an easy game (hard to find good mailboxes); not expecting these are things that you come across on a daily basis.
I’ll get a Google Sheet published soon so everyone can see the scoring.
In the Sheet I’ll note “questionable” mailboxes in the total. Two reasons:
1. Prevent anyone from including lots of “weak” mailboxes to win the total count prize
2. Let everyone know what I think along the way of “questionable” mailboxes (I know, it’s subjective).Kris (bigredboiler)

Participant1/12/21 – Bats!
Had some ideas of where to look as I started my ride, but….
Timing is everything, and I found this waiting at a red light in the first minute of my ride! Thank you red light (rare that I say this!

Found some other bats today as well, but also struck out a lot with some ideas I had along the way. Fun (and lucky) day!

ParticipantFilipe, I know everyone loves this forum and it’s fun to see wormholes from everyone.
I created a Google Map (#Freezing Saddles WormHoles) to aid with collecting & finding wormholes.
- Anyone can view & edit
- This way you can see all the wormholes on a map in one place
- I started adding some wormholes posted on this forum already
- You can add a point, a line, or make a route (only if the route exists on Google maps)
I know you’ve been finding wormholes for years, so I thought the map would be a good way to start gathering them in one place.
Feel free to use, promote, modify, or ignore this completely.
Love to have any feedback or questions from anyone as well.
Google Maps can be a little awkward to figure out how to edit and use, but I don’t know anything that might be better/easier.bigredboiler

Participant1/11/21 – Airplane!
Found a variety of “airplane” themed this to photograph today, but this one nearly instantly popped to mind, so it’s what I’m going with for sharing here.

Fun stuff and I’m enjoying looking at everyone’s pics….great creativity & keen eyes to find stuff!

I’ve never tried using Tapatalk — on my Android phone, I’ve just used mobile Chrome to navigate the forum and post things. AFAIK, there’s no mobile version of the website, so you just have a very unwieldy UI, and attaching images is basically the same as on a desktop, it just requires lots of zooming in to press small buttons. I will say that I generally use a browser on my laptop to write things/post images if possible, it’s just nicer with a larger screen and real keyboard (but what isn’t?). It might be worth a try?
The process looks something like this (very similar to the desktop UX):

Press the “Insert Image” button
Press “Choose file” (then get sent to file browser or photos app or whatever)
Select the image, then get sent back to the modal window you saw before, press “Upload file(s)”Add whatever else to your post and then submit it.
I’ve only posted from my browser in a Windows PC, but there is an Android App for Tapatalk and based on signatures in this forum, it looks like many use it.

This license plate was made for today….
I’ve seen it before on George Mason, but it wasn’t there when I rode midday. Went back out just now for redemption. Really couldn’t let this one get missed.
