ParticipantNew voices, new perspectives, and cheerful twisted humor are always welcome.
Get some good, no great, lights. You will see the ninja joggers faster and be seen with enough time to take evasive action.
Size matters. At least as far as lights go.
Enjoy your bikes. You need at least one more. You’ll always need one more.

ParticipantThat is a beautiful bike and it’s very cool that you customized it according to what you wanted in a bike PLUS reused some components.
For the money, Feshbikes is the best for fitting.
But I had a good experience with Performance in Tysons when I was trying to get the most out of a cross bike. The bike was too big but he worked with me and replaced the handlebars, replaced the crank, and made some other adjustments to try and make the bike work.
It took at least two trips and probably about two hours of being in the shop pedaling in a trainer. It’s worth a call to see what they’d charge.

ParticipantThe best thing to do: Take the Confident City Cycling Classes offered through WABA.
Learn the law, the rules, and strategies for handling traffic in a way that makes you predictable to drivers and keeps you safe.
Three quarters of riding in traffic is understanding how to adjust your riding to fit the traffic and weather conditions.Best wishes, ride safe.

ParticipantTengo pocas luces.
Or something like that.
I’ll work on my Spanish and put 12 new D batteries on the sparkle bike.

ParticipantDirt, just imagine where you’d be without the riding…

ParticipantI rode from Vienna to a little past Herndon this afternoon.
I only found one spot that was blocked. About 200 yards east of Hunter Mill.

ParticipantAs much as I’d like to spend the day licking guacamole off my fingers and sipping Diet Coke, I’m going to jump on Thor (my mountain bike) and ride towards Herndon this afternoon to see if anything needs clearing on the W&OD. And I don’t mean the joggers.

ParticipantIt’s not quite the same thing but the Potomac Pedalers run hundreds of “organized” rides each month.
They have a website: http://www.potomacpedalers.org/
The first year I owned a bike I rode with them every weekend and learned the basics of riding with a group.
Look carefully at the posted average speeds. There is a little drift towards faster than advertised, be forewarned.
A fun group, never had a bad ride. Except for the first one. But that’s a long story.

ParticipantApparently you can’t cast votes on behalf of other people. I watched an instructive videotape yesterday covering that subject.

ParticipantI had so much fun lighting up my bike I am lighting up my son’s bike and putting them both in the front yard for Halloween. I’ll post photos. It’s fun and not scary.

ParticipantAs if membership wasn’t enough WABA is sweetening the pot.
Each new membership comes with either a super duper WABA water bottle OR spiffy WABA sunglasses.Oh. be still my heart… WABA sunglasses.

ParticipantAt this point in my life I worry enough about my fellow cyclists that if I see something scary, and it’s within a mile or two of my home I’ll mark it with spray paint and post a warning on the forum. Broken bones are no joke. Hard falls stay with you.

ParticipantIt was very successful, about 75 bikes and great weather. DC at night is an entirely different experience. The Capitol is beautiful, and so it the Air and Space Museum. The most fun was rolling through the Eastern Market area. Many people were sitting at outside cafes and waved as we went by. The traffic was light and the route was easy to follow. All in all it very fun.
