W&OD Maintenance this weekend – 1/16-17

Heads Up Folks:

Dominion Virginia Power will be pruning and removing trees along 8-10 miles of the W&OD Trail, from the Reston area east, for the next several weeks. The Northern Virginia Regional Parks Authority said the work is part of routine transmission line right-of-way maintenance.

That means between Vienna and Reston, there will be some tight spots. This is a HIGH use area so please be smart and courteous, even when others are not courteous to you!

There are some poor trees just west of Vienna that have had every branch removed, but Dominion didn’t put them out of their misery and just cut them down entirely. I don’t understand why a tree that is 30′ shorter than the power lines needs to be destroyed like this, when it could grow for 25 years before it became a threat.

If they’ve actually removed every branch, that might be step 1 in removing the whole tree.
