    I’m always on favor of abruptly that keeps the drivers respecting our space & safety. But brooms seem like an odd choice.

    I don’t see the point of them – unless they can be picked up & used to sweep debris from the bike lanes. But I didn’t get that from the article

    The brooms could also be used to assert your right to 3 feet of passing space by mounting them crosswise on the rear rack.

    Although a rake or some other yard implement better suited to scratching the paint off the side of an SUV might be superior for that purpose.

    I’ve seen poor June whacked to heck and now gone on the 1st Street Bike Line by Union Station.
