P.S. mstone, is your screen name pronounced EM STONE or MUH STONE? Or maybe Ms. Tone?

Does anyone besides me remember the days (before 1989, for you young whipper snappers) when the Clara Barton Parkway was known as the GW Parkway? Yes, the current GW Parkway was also known as the GW Parkway, even then. It made the traffic reports fairly confusing.

CCT, henceforth, always means the Capital Crescent Trail. The trail in Fairfax is now the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail, or the GCCCT, thus solving this aspect of the TLA crisis.

Do Chicago transplants call it the /waaa-dddd/? Do British transplants try to add an extra “r” in there, somewhere? Do Aussies pronounce it “weee-uhd”? Do North Carolinians say /wah-uh-oo-duh/? There are a lot of transplants around here.

Nope. They add an extra u, but it is silent.

That would be Bostonians and Mainers, but it’s a very soft r.

Monty Pyhtoners pronounce it with three M’s and a silent Q! :)
