Is anyone aware of the trail conditions for either the Mount Vernon Trail (all the way to George’s house) or the “Grand Tour of Arlington” Loop (Mt. Vernon, Custis, W&OD and Four Mile Run) after the big storm Thursday night, the 5th? It took me quite a while to get back to Arlington on the Mt. Vernon Trail last night due to all the downed trees across the trail and adjacent streets. I would like to try again this afternoon if the trails are open.

I rode W&OD from Vienna to Custis, Custis to Rosslyn and Mt. Vernon to Memorial Bridge this morning and the trail was clear except for the runner who was trying to break off a branch that was hanging down around a blind corner just west of Glebe road on the Custis trail. I got a much needed whack in the face and probably deserved it. :D

I’ll ride the other half of the Gwand Tour of Arlington on the way home tonight. Last night after the worst part storm the underpass near Bluemont was at least 2-feet deep when I rode through it. Luckily I was going downstream. The good news is that my Ortlieb panniers and cat-litter bucket panniers really are waterproof. :D
