Unfortunately, I had to miss the happy hour. I’m happy to make up the happy hour later. Will drinking an extra beer tomorrow work?

What did I miss? Do we have any natural enemies? Shoulder surgery? Ice? Help me out here!

I confess I did not attend the happy hour. I did not ride far today, or yesterday or the day before or the day before. Forgive me. I don’t have studs, I don’t have a cx bike, I don’t have drop bars. I don’t have much besides a new Gore jacket and a smart wool hat. Forgive me for not adding many points and confirming Steve O’s theory on random team members. I firmly intend amendment of all of these transgressions some other year.

Fast Friendly Guy, Steve O, Karen B, kdugan, Powerful Pete — it was fun meeting you at the happy hour yesterday. Everyone else — I hope we get a chance to meet at another happy hour or team event.

It looks like some of the others are introducing themselves on their team threads, so here goes: I bike commute from OT Alexandria to downtown when I can, and on weekends I like to run errands by bike and fit in the occasional longer ride. I apologize in advance that I’ll be out of town without access to a bike for at least one weekend during FS, and that I don’t currently have studs, bar mitts, toe warmers, or other winter gear that would allow me to live up to Rule 5.

As I understand it, the things we need to do are:
    1.) Pick a captain.
    2.) Pick a team name.
3.) Create a Strava club for the team.
4.) Let the substitution czar — Amalitza? — know that Fast Friendly Guy plans to withdraw from BAFS2015, and that we’ll need a substitute. (Heal quickly, FFG!)

And just to be clear, by posting this I’m not volunteering to be team captain. I’m a triple newbie — new to winter commuting, new to FS, and new to Strava — so you really don’t want me to be team captain.

If we’re sticking with the “club” theme for our team name, that should lend itself to some creative possibilities. Club Sandwich? Club Penguin IRL? Club Who Needs Groucho Marx Anyway? I like Team Club Soda, too. Other suggestions welcome!

    Hi team,

    Coincidence? Or conspiracy?
For the 3rd year running I am on Team 4. We called ourselves Bollard Busters both of the last two years, which you will understand if you are a long-time lurker on this forum.

We could call ourselves that again, for consistency and perhaps to firmly establish tradition. Bollard Busters came in 2nd in 2013 and 9th in 2014. I’m hoping we’ll regress to the mean–particularly without FFG.

Looks like a lot of newbies on our team; welcome!

If no one else is interested in being captain, I will do it.

Please send suggestions for team names, seconds for any komorebi suggested, or your approval of continuing the traditional Bollard Busters name.

Probably not. I think buying the rest of the team a beer will work better.

    Likewise.

I take a lot of grief from my so-called “friends” on the forum, only a tiny fraction of which is deserved. Most Fridays I am at FCCII at Java Shack.
I live in West Arlington, not far from Westover, and commute most days to Rosslyn. Most of my biking is to go places (work, meetings, shopping, coffee runs, happy hours, etc.), but I also do social rides, centuries and the occasional Tri360 ride. My personal goal for the last few years is to ride a minimum of 300 miles per month. Last year I rode 1002 miles on 75 days (out of 78) during FS, and I will try to duplicate that this year.

I have lived in Arlington since 1994 and have been bike commuting since 1995 or 1996 (I forget exactly). My commutes have been to: DC, Herndon, Reston, Silver Spring, Kensington and now Rosslyn–my shortest ever, which means I have to make up more miles elsewhere.

    Hi all

I live in Del Ray section of Alexandria and commute to and from Georgetown on weekdays. I’m up for social rides on weekends and evenings (when family commitments allow.)

Hiya everyone! It was great meeting folks at the happy hour last night; look forward to meeting to the rest of the team for a future ride/get together. I admit, being an FS newbie as well as a relatively new cyclist, I was a little nervous about joining a team but felt immediately at ease last night. I can already tell this is gonna be a lot of fun. My apologies for not tracking on Strava previously; I thought the happy hour was the official kickoff – oops, lesson learned. As for cycling, I just gave up my parking spot at work about 2 months ago, so I am committed to bike commuting and also enjoy social rides as well. I too am low on gear e.g. no special studded or grippy tires, but I have warm clothes/layers and a desire to bike as much as possible through the winter, so here goes:)

As for the name, I am pretty open to any and all suggestions. Here’s two more ideas – Team I-Cycle, Team B-icicle:p

I’m happy to go with tradition — particularly because it already comes with a cool Strava icon.

Using the honor system, you can manually enter any rides that you remember between Jan 1 and now. For instance, if you commuted, you probably know that distance. For others, you can use Google maps to determine distance.
Just do the best you can; we can use all the points we can get. Make sure you get the dates correct when you manually enter, so we get the 10 points credit for those days.

    More name ideas:
History’s Greatest Monsters (extending my personal notoriety to the whole team)
(riffing on the “club” motif) Seal Clubs or Seal Clubbers
    Spokes Persons
    Chain of Command
    Team Four: Nick Atirs
    Team Four: Seps
    Team Four: Midables

    etc…

Most humble salutations. Great meeting those who made it to the happy hour last night, and a hearty and shivering welcome to those who did not.

    1. All hail Steve O, our fearless leader.

    2. I am Powerful Pete. A much more impressive name than my riding capabilities. Moved to VA last summer, commuting as of November 2014. Long time rider, former racer, now fat and slow and content.

    3. I live in North Arlington, just off Lee Highway. The closest booze store is Arrowine. Yes, I enjoy fermented and distilled beverages. And wine, and cheese, and carbos, and most edible things (this is not necessarily a good thing for a cyclist).

    4. I commute into the District, so I get in about 30km a day (I am originally from Yuroop, so prefer metric to that other measuring system!). :p Oh, I am partial to mindless laps at Hains Point. As in, the Hains Point competition is very important to me. But also enjoy riding on weekends.

    5. Newbie to FS, the area, and winter cycling in general.

    6. In terms of team names, happy with Bollard Busters and also found team ” Four – Midables ” to have a pleasant ring to it. But am agnostic… will go with whatever the team majority prefers.

    7. Have signed up for our Strava team. 😎

    8. More than happy to participate and/or help organize some team rides to get the miles in.

    9. No, I am not normal. But who in a normal state of mind would sign up for this?
