Registration is open now for Freezing Saddles 2026!

More information on the competition is in Henry’s sticky post, above.  The registration form is at this link.

As a reminder, registration will close on the earlier of a) 11:59:59 pm on December 24 or b) when we have 250 registrations. (The registration form shows you both how long before that date and how many people have registered so far.)  After that, you will be admitted only on a space available basis.  So it’s important to get your registrations in early.

Also, after registration, you will receive two e-mails:  one confirming your registration and one asking to you click on it to verify that you are willing to receive e-mails from us:

• If you see that second e-mail, please click on it.
• If you don’t see that second e-mail, please check your spam, social, or whatever special folders you may have.
• If you still don’t see that second e-mail, please use our contact form to let us know, so that we can confirm you manually.

Note that if you don’t want to be on a team, but just want to be Friend of Freezing Saddles, please don’t fill out that form.  Information on what Friends of Freezing Saddles are, and how to be one, can be found at this link.

@shawn-huddleston, I got in last year but then had to drop out when I got hit by a car during a trip to find my scavenger hunt item and ended up with a broken fibula.  I’m really hoping not to repeat that performance!

Edited to add: this is my point about this platform. I was trying to reply to a post above but it shows as a reply to the topic itself, so the context is lost.

@jrenaut, I agree!  The sample forum I created so far had several requirements:

• Distinguishing between a reply to a post and a reply to the overall topic.
• Private messages.
• Automatic resizing of images when uploading, instead of just rejecting the file.
• User mentioning, so people could get notices when they were tagged.  (Right now, I can tag you and it shows up as colored text, but a) it doesn’t happen just because I hit “Reply” on your post, and b) you don’t get any kind of notice of it.)
• Ability to look at the forum either by topic (e.g., if you want to check your team’s topic rather than wading through everything else posted today) or by most recent post.

I also put in some fun stuff, like:

• Ability to use emoticons.
• Ability to change your “title” from “Member” to something more fun.  (Mine at the moment is “Registration czar.”)
• Polls.
• Profile pages that can include cover photos and avatars.

If you don’t want it just because it’s WordPress, and are willing to develop something else, I’ll back off.  But if you’d like to look at it and see, I’m happy to provide you with a link.
