LhasaCMParticipant@AlanA – Thanks! I definitely will be able to get a few more over the next several weeks when I leave the friendly confines of DC (usually limited to the weekend rides, though). It’s just the daily hunt that is over. Unless former/repurposed fire stations count – then I could probably eek out another week or so (thinking about ones off the top of my head)…

LhasaCMParticipant2/6/2024 – This is the former home of DC Engine #12, so I tagged it “#FormerFire” on my ride to not mess up the leaderboard. The building was vacated in 1987 after 100 years in service. It had a brief period pre-pandemic as a restaurant. More recently, it and the adjacent lots were being redeveloped as a boutique hotel. In December, it was the site of a 3-alarm fire.

Feel free to tag it ‘Fire’ on Strava. I’ll give you credit for finding it and telling about the history. I like a good story.February 6, 2024 at 9:41 pm #1131242

I got a coupla fire engines on 4 mile run drive in S Arlington today. (I was on the w&od, which runs parallel to it.)
They mustabin on their way back from a run, cuz no sirens. I couldn’t see any numbers on them cuz they were past me by the time I took the pic.

LhasaCMParticipantThanks, @AlanA! Just because I felt like keeping it separate, I tagged it #FireFormer so it still gets picked up in the leaderboard (since the hashtag boards are programmed to be everything starting with that tag, probably because of the whole #withkid setup) but it is still “different.”

LhasaCMParticipant2/7/2024 – Another former fire station I randomly found this evening.

This is the former home of the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department. While the department itself was founded in 1922, this building dates back to 1937; the second story was added in 1952. The building was vacated about 20 years ago when several nearby fire departments consolidated operations in the Bunker Hill station on Rhode Island Avenue.
In 2021, Brentwood began a major capital project to renovate the old fire house and turn it into a new town center that will have community space as well as administrative space to support the town’s government. The original project page has a completion date of June 2022. (Oops)
