Heads up northbound commuters who take Valley Drive through Park Fairfax. Alexandria PD is ticketing bikers (but not cars…) for “blowing through” the stop sign @ Martha Custis/Gunston and Valley Drive. At least 2 bike commuters have been pulled over in the rain so far in the last 10 minutes or so! Please come to a full stop at the intersection and be a PAL!!!

Now a third cyclist pulled over, but cars continue to slow-roll the stop sign with no enforcement of traffic law.

To be fair, I did see the officer pull over a car this morning at that intersection as I was leaving (driving *GASP*) for work this morning.

However, he did pull the car over on Valley in the freaking travel lane… 😡

I would be curious to know the motivation behind the enforcement there. There have been no accidents (or even near misses to my knowledge) from anyone slow rolling the stop signs at that intersection (or the one farther down). What is the rationale between targeting cyclists and not motorists?

I’m guessing some grumpy PFX resident complained and complained and complained and complained and complained about Scofflaw Angry Bikers.

I would guess about 15-30% of vehicles that pass through that intersection ACTUALLY come to a complete stop. Of that percentage, almost all of them are probably lost, and looking for directions…
