Are you saying that it freezes during your commute or are you leaving it out on the bike all night? If the latter, maybe bring it inside (with your helmet) at night. If the former, depending on your errands, a cheap cable lock might work instead.

All of my u and padlocks are frozen right now. Had to thaw them to go for a ride.

More annoying, my bike mounted mini pump was frozen the other day. Had to melt it with tummy heat to fix my flat.

Just wanted to throw in here that WD40 is not a lubricant. It is a water displacement formulation. Its lubricating properties are incidental and not long-lasting. I lubed my u-lock with household oil because it was starting to stick and have never had to do it again.

I leave my cable lock coiled around the bike rack at work so I dont have to carry it. It took the strength of 3 mere mortals to unwind it this morning. Glad I don-t have a ULock as it would have been unusable.

Very true of actual WD-40 (the WD stands for water displacement, of course), though for the record, they do now have a whole line of WD-40 branded products, including lubricants. I’d seen mention of it online, and then saw the actual products on display at REI over the weekend when I was there to buy my GPS.
