Larry definitely knew that the forum knew about the San Fran stuff.
Quote:No one on the Washington Area Bike Forum or among the riders I spoke with had heard of such incidents around here, though one Strava user did admit to blowing through a red light at 2 a.m. in an attempt to better his segment time — only to be greeted by a police officer on a bike on the other side of the intersection, who let him go.While he, technically I guess, could have said “had heard of such incidents occurring around here”, I didn’t feel it was all that ambiguous either.
edit: oh, and I want to publically apologize to my team for not getting a ride in yesterday. My typical evening 1.1 mile ride was unpossible due to a conference call that lasted until just after midnight. On the upside, having worked a 16 hour day, I only need to work an hour or two on Friday which will make it possible to put in some serious (for me) mileage that day.

ParticipantGood thing I didn’t sign up for this contest, because I still haven’t ridden a bike in this calendar year. At least my skinned knees have healed up. Maybe I’ll ride today. Winter storm on the way tomorrow though. Possible 5 inches of snow or more, especially in the afternoon and evening.

I like my BikeArlington sticker that I’ve put on my two commuting bikes, “Can your treadmill get you to work?”
I have seen these on the W&OD as well, maybe it’s not a treadmill, but it’s the same essence of Gym.

ParticipantIt looks like tomorrow will be our first real Freezing Saddles ride. The NWS has issued the prediction for Arlington
A chance of rain and snow between 10am and 1pm, then snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 39. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

ParticipantThe City Hub shop in Crystal City used to have ElliptiGo’s available for rental. (The store closed for good after Christmas Eve.) There’s also some guy in Arlington who rides around on an ElliptiGo at night, on the empty streets.

ParticipantAnd it lets you coast. I think inane elliptical devices should be fixie only.

ParticipantThere was a Segway parked at the bike racks of my office yesterday…It got me thinking that a Segway could be a great way to rack up some #BAFS points without looking too suspicious. I think they top out around 15-20mph. I also saw an Elliptigo parked at the racks this summer, but just the one time.

ParticipantI’ve seen both an ElliptiGo and a Segway on the trails in Arlington. Not very often though, only once or twice.

I was looking into the Palomar Mountain climb, as I’m joining my wife out in San Diego while she’s out there for a conference next month and I’ll be on my own most days and trying to do some mountain climbs. 7.1% grade for 6.8 miles! Looks like most of the good bike times are in the 40 minute range (KOM is Chris Horner, which doesn’t surprise me at all), but the fastest Elliptigo time was 1:10. So yeah, if I ever try one, it’s gonna be on something flat.

I saw some guy on one of these doing laps at the Crystal Ride ride a couple of years ago.

ParticipantFreezing Saddles is an effort of the bike forum community. essigmw proposed the challenge. TwoWheelsDC came up with the graphic and I believe the name. Ron is doing the magic of the techie IT backend magic. I did the sign up form and threw everyone’s name down the stairs to make teams.
Freezing Saddles needs you.
If we are to have a March Madness tournament, we need a tournament director – someone to set it up and run it.
Could also use a volunteer to set up an end of competition festivity, where pointless awards, including awards generously donated by BA, can be thrown at cyclists.
And we need people to volunteer for pointless awards. Volunteer to create and award different awards. Like most suspicious ride (and the nominee is DismalScientist doing 65 mph under the whitehurst) or most sleeze rides for points or ride during freezing saddles done where it was actually summer (and the nominee is vvill). And we could use someone to coordinate the pointless awards.
And the nominee is YOU! Remember, if you dont volunteer, Mongo will be very upset.

ParticipantI volunteer for tournament director but I would need some techie help. See my previous post about tournament format. it would be nice to get some feedback though.

ParticipantI like the pointless awards ideas, but I don’t think we need a playoff tournament. Our regular season is already almost three full months.
