The first weekend in November VDOT and their bridge contractor will be closing the section of Columbia Pike beneath the Washington Blvd bridge so that a portion of the bridge can be safely demolished. The closure will begin late Friday night and wrap up by 4:30am Monday morning. Columbia Pike traffic will be temporarily routed up ramps to a temporary stop-light intersection with Washington Blvd. Washington Blvd traffic that is heading West/Northbound (toward Clarendon) that wants to get to Westbound Columbia Pike (like over to Penrose) will be routed up the South Second Street exit and directed through Penrose down South Courthouse Road to Columbia Pike. VDOT says that detour accommodations will be made for cars, bikes and pedestrians.
I put up a blog post with additional detail (including VDOT’s detour maps) on my blog if folks are interested.
