There’s a lot to go through and I’m still in-process, but there is a lot of good news for cyclists in the proposed 10 year Capital Plan. Stuff I’ve seen so far:
Army Navy Dr Cycle Track
Project will consist of a “road diet” on the existing travel lanes on Army Navy Drive, including removal of the median, to provide room for a two-way dedicated bicycling facility on the south side of the ROW, alongside the existing sidewalk. Will also include driveway apron and traffic signalization modifications.
Construction Completion FY 2017Boundary Channel Drive Interchange
The existing Boundary Channel Drive interchange is inadequate for current demands and for planned growth in Crystal City. The addition of Long Bridge Park and the Aquatics Center accelerate the need for improvements at this location. Long Bridge Park Drive up to and through the interchange with I-395 and Boundary Channel Drive will be reconstructed to provide a safe and attractive environment for all modes of transportation, including bicyclists, pedestrians, buses, and vehicles. Project elements include new curb and gutter, sidewalks, bicycle facilities, streets trees and street lighting. Critical bike and pedestrian connections will be made from Crystal City to the Mount Vernon Trail. Two roundabouts will be constructed, which will serve as a gateway to the new aquatic center and Long Bridge Park.
Construction Completion FY 2017Capital Bikeshare
There appears to be about 400,000/yr every year for Bikeshare expansion.Columbia Pike Bike Boulevards
Money is included for the Bike Boulevards project as part of the Columbia Pike reconstruction.Potomac Yard/Four Mile Run Trail Connection
This project will provide an ADA compliant shared use trail of approximately 250 feet traversing the steep grade between Potomac Yard and the Four Mile Run trail, below. Project will necessarily require significant grading and retaining walls.
Construction Completion FY 2015Bridge Reconstruction – Carlin Springs Rd, Shirlington Rd and Meade St
Tucked away in the Bridge Renovation is this nugget: Some bridges have also been identified through planning efforts as being in need of upgrades to accommodate non-automobile travel modes and for aesthetic improvement. The bridges currently in need of rehabilitation and upgrade are North Carlin Springs Road over George Mason Drive, Shirlington Road bridge over Four Mile Run and North Meade Street bridge over Arlington Boulevard. The Carlin Springs Road bridge is to be funded in FY 2013 with State funds. The Shirlington Road bridge will be funded in fiscal years 2013 and 2015 with both local and State funds. The Meade Street bridge will be funded with local and State funds in fiscal year 2019 and 2021.In general, additional funding is included for the Complete Streets initiative which may result in various improved bicycle facilities around the County.
There’s some money in there to start implementing the Four Mile Run Restoration Master Plan, but it’s unclear to me if any of it is for the new trails and such that are called for in the plan, or if this money is just for the actual waterway restoration.
Sad to see no mention of the Hoffman-Boston Connector

The proposed CIP is up online, if anyone notices anything else cool, chime in.
