On Monday the Traffic & Parking Board will discuss proposed changes to Braddock Road between Russell and the Metro station (more details are in the 271-page docket materials).
The plan includes upgrading Braddock to include bike lanes with post protection (as on upper King Street), and to remove the vast majority of the generally unused on street parking.
Many residents are up in arms about this. Yard signs, flyers handed out door-to-door, email and social media posts predicting “devastating” fallout and “unliveable” conditions, etc. if the parking is removed. Same old nobody-bikes-here-so-why-add-lanes arguments.
City staff have asked that any written comments be received before 7pm on Sunday (Feb 22). Speaking in person will also be allowed. As City Hall is closed for renovations, TPB meets now at the new City Council Chambers, Room 1305 at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center, 4850 Mark Center Drive.-Peter
