I’m parting ways with my 1981 Soma Competition.

Soma was a small brand in the late 70’s and early 80’s with high-quality tubing and components, made by Kuwahara in Japan. The Comeptition was the second-in-line model, intended for entry level racing or serious training. Champion No 2 butted tubes, Shimano 600 arabesque groupset, Nitto Olympiade handlebars, Speedic Professional leather seat (Japanese Brooks), SR Laprade seatpost.

Wheels are Ukai schrader valve rims and sealed bearing hubs and are serviceable, pedals are spd/platform combo, or I could put the original platforms back on. Bar tape is white cork in decent condition. Paint is all original and 7/10 shape, with some touch-ups.

Top tube 57 cm, seat tube 57cm. I’m 6′ and it’s a little small for me, but not too bad – I rode 27 miles on it last Saturday.

    Sold… a while ago.
Also, I lowered the seatpost and put a different saddle on there, I think that helped.
